Prompt: Are the characters realistic? Why or why not?
I've been reading another book series named "Sword Art Online" I skipped some volumes because I already know what has happened since I have already watched the show. From the first few pages you can clearly tell that the show followed the book's guidelines since the quotes are the exact same thing, good job. I also noticed why I like reading the Heroes of Olympus and the books that Rick Riordan write. It's because the characters feel like real people, REAL PEOPLE.
In my opinion, the characters create the story. There is nothing mre important than the characters. It's not the plot, it's not the setting, it's not even the actual story line. I read books and watch shows that have fun characters, characters that I actually like. I read a book before and the MC (Main Character) was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo incredibly dumb. Like if the word idiotic and indecisive were in a dictionary, his face would be right there, as an example for the words idiotic and indecisive. It was a book where it was basically the survival of the fittest. This, quote, "God of Gods" chose 10 people to fight to the death to become the new "God of Gods", the Main Character was one of the 10 people. He had a girl fall in love with him, like, MADLY in love with him. So much in love that she cuffed him to a chair to make sure that he'll always stay with her and she was the only reason he was still alive in the fight-to-the-death-to-become-the-new-god-of-gods. He almost LET HER DIE!!! WHEN HE HAD SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY CHANCES TO KILL THE PERSON THAT WAS TRYING TO KILL THEM!!! I HATE THE MAIN CHARACTER. I hate him with a passion... a passion.
I might have taken quite a bit of time explaining one of the 10 things I hate most in this world... Sorry. I wanted you to know how much importance the character's personality/likability has. The reason why I love the Heroes of Olympus so much is because I love the characters so much. Each character is completely different from each other. They have real feelings towards each other, they show those feelings and hide those feelings like a real human would. I don't know if Rick Riordan studied personalities before or if he just took someone's personality in a pen and started righting with it, but the characters feel real. In this paragraph right here, "None of the locals seemed to notice the huge Greek warship hovering over the piazza, nor the fact that Jason and Leo had just flown down – Jason wielding a gold sword, and Leo … well, Leo pretty much empty-handed.
‘Where to?’ Jason asked.
"Leo stared at him. ‘Well, I dunno. Let me pull my dwarf-tracking GPS out of my tool belt … Oh, wait! I don’t have a dwarf-tracking GPS – or my tool belt!’"
Leo was being sarcastic! WHAT INGENIOUS IDEA IS THIS! This adds so much more feel into the characters, so much that you'll come to love them!
Every single quote the the characters have, and their every single move makes them feel real. They're like the REAL Leo and the REAL Jason. Riordan rights in the way that the characters are thinking. He uses their kind of language, saying words like "Sup brah." and quotes with humor in them like, "Look, man, you’ve got dwarfs in your belfry. I’m the exterminator." This is what makes a good book. Please focus on the characters, they make the story.
