Sword Art Online - Mother's Rosario

Prompt: Figurative Language and Imagery

Honestly, I was going to do this book as one of my summer blogs but I got way too bored of this book to actually finish it. This is actually going to be a hate blog more then a, "This book is awesome, go read it." kind of blog. First thing I hate about this book was that, Sinon, the main heroine in the Phantom Bullet Arc, just went up and vanished. I didn't like that, at all. It almost seemed like the whole Phantom Bullet Arc seemed like it took place in a complete other dimension and the Phantom Bullet Arc was actually GOOD, not as good as the Aincrad Arc but they were finally onto the right track! The thing about the Phantom Bullet and Aincrad Arcs was that they put the fear of death back into the story through "Death Gun". It gives the reader a sense of real fear that the character's they're attached to, are going to die any time soon. That intense feeling makes you want to keep on reading it but Mother's Rosario, there was no hook, nothing to keep you thinking something like, "Oh no... Don't die! Stop being so stupid!!!" it doesn't get you as attached as it did in the Aincrad Arc or the Phantom Bullet Arc but instead it makes you feel as if nothing's going to happen, nothing exciting is going to come right around the corner, and even if it does, there won't really be much of a risk by doing so. It's not like they're going to lose their lives.

But the two things I really, really did not like was the plot and the characters. About the plot, without the death thing incorporated into it, they're just playing a video game, they're just casually playing a MMO. That concept wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for the fact that they're taking it way too seriously. I get the fact that Kirito and Sinon have to get serious because they're fighting against death, but this, this is just... Over reacting. Now, about the characters, it just seems like the author had a realization that after 4 novels you finally thought that you needed to let your main heroine be one of the main characters... The other main character of this novel, Yuuki, is basically an overpowered child.

This book didn't really have much figurative language into it, which I surprisingly liked. It was more straightforward than most books, not having any unnecessary page-length descriptions of rocks. The action is fast-paced which is what it's supposed to be like, you don't want a 30-minute action scene, please understand that I do not like those kind of books. But it does have a lot of imagery, because that's basically a necessity. You can't really get a grip on the feel of the atmosphere without knowing your environment. You cannot tell whether or not it's a fearful mood if you don't know that you're in the middle of the woods. It has a lot of imagery in it. It fully explains the setting that is Alfheim. It says such words like majestic since it's a world of fairies, stunning and beautiful. With the big cherry colored willow tree in the middle of the map. Alfheim seems to be the perfect MMO setting.

  1. You're very honest with your blogs. I like that. You used the prompt to explain your book really well. Keep it up!
