Kill Order - Redo October 20

_________________________ Redo
Prompt: Do you like what you’re reading? Why or why not?
Pages Read:

I do enjoy what I'm reading, though I'm kind of disappointed in some aspects. I was reading this book expecting Thomas, Newt, Minho, and all of the other Gladers mentioned in it but they were nowhere to be found. When I said I enjoyed reading this book, I meant it, it's a good book with a marvelous writing style and a great plot line but I feel that it was mis-advertised. If you're going to make it in the same series as a book, even if it's a prequel, we're expecting the old characters to at least be mentioned in that new book. We don't want an entirely new story, if you're going to do so, please make a new series. Don't bunch it up with others that are almost completely unrelated to each other. You're giving the fans false hope. False hope for another book coming out with the same romance and the same characters. I, personally, think it's just quite rude doing that.

As I've said before, I'm not saying that it's a bad book, it's just that other influences are affecting my choice. But if we're focused on the pros of this new book and not entirely my opinion, I guess I might be able to point it out. The plot line is still, sort of related to it's sequels. The book's main goal was to explain how the flare began, which I found pretty surprising but the author's way of executing how that goal was shown is just marvelous. The book's new characters aren't half bad, they still have the aspects that I find needed in a good main protagonist such as standing out and being different from the background characters which really causes them to pop and shine, which I find scarce in most books but the thing that makes this book really shine to most of it's readers is that it's a prequel to a hit series. Yes, the reason that it's good isn't because of it's actual content, but of it's relation.

The relation makes all the difference in this book. Just knowing that it's somewhat related to one of my favorite series of all time causes me to continue to read it just to find more connections. Right now, the author could do anything to the past story without messing it up for future books. It's interesting to read while learning more about the world that the true main characters have lived and survived in. It's basically background information of the main book, which is really interesting.

Prompt: Pretend you are the friend of one of the characters. Write him or her a letter.

Hey Mark. Look, I spent a lot of money on this incredibly expensive letter so would you just read it because I know that you're still alive and sane. Okay now look here, I'm at Detroit, this place is just full of cranks. I saw a child's dead body just lying out right on a street, half of it's dead body. Whatever crank did that, I guess he didn't do such a good job of eating him. Anyways, I'm planning on leaving. While you're reading this, I'm on my way onto Washington D.C. I'm planning on working with the government to find out a cure. I saw them, WCKED, they can do it. They have the equipment and everything, they just need some support.

On my way to Washington, I might try and find out where you are. Now look, don't come out in this desert thinking, "Oh my gosh! Nadrian is going to die out there~ We need tah help em'" cause I'm not gonna die. If I find you on my way there, whoopdie doo. I'm just planning on passing by your city for some supplies but I'd like you and your crew's help, kay? I'd really, really like that guy, Alec's, help too and Trina... Yeah, I guess she could also come with us. Don't want you getting lovesick and trying to take us all the way back from Washington D.C to get Trina.

I have though about reading this book thinking that it was actually related to Thomas and the others. Thinking that I'll get to learn more about Newt's background, Minho's lifestyel, who they were before the flare. But nahhh. James Dashner wanted to make something completely different. Something that looks like it happened in a completely different dimension.

  1. I love how you were so comfortable when typing up this letter! Is this the second book to the *Maze Runner*? I automatically think how the movie is going to be. It seemed to be to so ordinary to find a body on the ground. Do you think that it has the same setting as the desert when Tomas and the others were headed, but just with other people that were already there trying to escape as well? Amazing blog post!

  2. Great blog this week! I loved how you not only wrote the letter, but you also wrote a short paragraph about your reflection towards the book. I haven't heard of this book, but it sounds interesting. Are the cranks sort of like zombies?
