Memorial Blog

Hitler created laws that stripped Jews away of entertainment and even the basic needs of life. After these laws were passed, there must have been no sense of equality among the German people, more specifically, between the Jews and the rest of the Germans. The government basically banned Jews from possessing anything. Jews were banned from holding jobs that are related to the German government. Jews were even banned from attending school. Without education, they had nothing. I believe that’s what Hitler wanted, for jews to have nothing. This gives us more information on the conditions the Jews were living in. Without the basic necessities of life, without being able to do anything, we understand how badly Jews were treated.

I believe that the monument was built as a memorial so that we won’t forget what happened. If we have forgotten what the Holocaust was, what racism was, I believe that the Civil Rights Movement of America would’ve been a lot worse and a lot longer. We use the Holocaust and Hitler as a bad example of history. We need those examples so that we can make sure we don’t do them again. We need memorials so that we never forget what had happened because if we do, it will definitely happen again.

I don’t have the full amount of decrees, but I can see them get a lot harsher over the years. They began with banning them from certain jobs, but after a few years, they started creating laws that banned from moving around freely and their basic needs of life.

I believe that the laws that force Jews to show their race openly would be the most difficult. In a country that is completely racist towards Jews, it would not help to openly show that you are a Jew in public. That’s basically shoving someone into a lion’s den. You’re opening yourself to legal, ruthless abuse by citizens. I wouldn’t be able to live with hardcore abuse every day of my life.
