Prompt: Describe the Setting
The Giver's setting is basically your average community, depending what your view on average is. The Giver's world is the opposite of this world, a utopia. I also noticed that Utopias are insanely boring, very boring. The Giver's world is a Utopia, yup, nothing out of the normal. Every one is the same, the houses are the same, the colors are the same, and the colors are the same bro! I said that twice because, they're basically colorblind, and my swim team coach is color blind, so I think that the experience of being colorblind sucks.
The time in where The Giver is in is something that is pretty hard to tell. I would think that it would be in the future since they have climate control and that's pretty high-tech, pretty high-tech. But there is also some things that make it seem like it's in the past, like... well... the simpleness of the whole thing, making everyone the same, making every thing the same, doesn't that seem like it's from the past? But I guess that there are more evidence saying that it's in the future then in the past for example, wouldn't it take quite a big scientific achievement and technological advancements to make everyone color blind?
Most of the books events happen in some sort of community. We do not know the name of it, nor even if it has a name. Basically what the main character is trying to do throughout the story is knowing what he's going to do, and I like that. It's different from the usual story, and during the ending, he's trying to execute that plan. Also the way that they are trying to change the community, and how sad the whole thing is. Euphemism is basically the whole meaning of this story. Hiding things from the people living in that community.
I like how you just talk about the community. No community, No book. But i think it would of been better if you picked a topic describing the end of the book.
ReplyDeleteGood job describing the setting. It was the biggest detail of the book.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you put in your own opinion throughout the whole 3 paragraphs instead of just listing things. I had a hard time telling when The giver was set as well. Great blog!
