The Maze Runner - Book Talk

Maze Runner

The Maze Runner trilogy is a fictional book that is set in a post-apocalyptic world. It is created by a man named James Dashner, the almighty author. I believe that James Dashner has mastered the art of books. He understands what the most important piece that creates the entire story. He knows that characters hold the key role in creating a good story. The Maze Runner is just that. You don’t read it because you want to know how the plot line progresses, you don’t read it because you just want to. You read it because you want to know who the characters become. I love these characters, so~ much.

The Maze Runner takes place in the maze, obviously. The Maze isn’t really just a maze. It’s a labyrinth, a maze that is always changing. In the center of the maze, there is a community that has lasted for over two years, the Glade. The Glade is this cubic area inside of the maze. It holds all the necessary facilities for those living within the Glade, such as a farm and a shelter. The ones living within the Glade are Gladers, all of which have a role to play out to keep them all alive. Thomas, the main character, becomes a “runner” which is the most important role that a glader can have and is also the most dangerous. Runners are the ones who try to find a way out, they are the ones who set out past the Glade to get out.

I was told not to give away too much of the plot so let’s just stop it there.
Ah! I just want to let you know, if that summary sounded pretty boring, don’t let that get to you. It’s because,
  1. I suck at making interesting summaries. (Summaries are meant to be informative anyways.)
  2. You read “The Maze Runner” not for the storyline, but for the character development. I honestly did read it for the small parts, like the love-life of Thomas and Teresa, or the bromance between Minho, Newt and Thomas.

The Maze Runner is a book that has a lot of moods that depend on the situation. If they’re in the Glade, it’s all nice and happy, since they’re all together and it’s just like a small town. But when Thomas is out in the Maze, alone, with robotic slimes called Grievers, it’s terrifying. When they’re on their way to the last mission and we know that some people are going to die, your eyes tear up so much that you can’t even read since the water is blurring your eyes. The Maze Runner isn’t just one thing, it’s everything combined in these wet pages filled with my tears.
